Laura Hicks is a Cincinnati-based professional wedding and portrait photographer with a unquenched passion for creating macro images. Her professional career started in 2002 when she photographed her first wedding. Hooked immediately, she has spent the last 13 years photographing hundreds of weddings and thousands of portraits. Her work appeared on Extreme Makeover: Home Edition. Her photography has also been featured in numerous on-line and print photography magazines.
Her passion for macro photography emerged while finding solace from her hectic schedule as a wife, mother, foster parent, technical writer, and business owner. In order to rejuvenate her creative ideas, Laura would take time away from her work to get lost in the minute details of daily life. Her subjects have included spiders, frogs, bees, and bugs of all kind. Because of her background in portrait photography, Laura generally prefers a living macro subjects where she can focus heavily on their eyes giving them personality and human-like characteristics. Her natural, documentary approach to macro photography gives the viewer a front row seat to creatures and features that are easily ignored.
As an Olympus Trailblazer, she has traveled around the United States educating both professionals and budding photographers on the joy of photographing the miniature details of the world around us. She is a passionate speaker who believes in building a strong photographic community. She is a fervent advocate in sharing her knowledge with others.
