Patrick Murphy-Racey is a Seattle based landscape photographer whose minimalist black and white images explore the relationships between isolation, environment and emotion. In his most recent project, North, Patrick contemplates the complex and often ambiguous cognitive and emotional states elicited by remote and barren landscapes though a series of images made over successive winters in Iceland. North explores the amplifying effect that such places have on perception – austere spaces paradoxically creating a heightened sense of physical and spiritual presence that may be both desired and unnerving.
Patrick Murphy-Racey covered hundreds of photography assignments for Sports Illustrated with four covers credited to his name. Author of two photography books to date with one in process, currently working with corporate / editorial clients and teaching lighting and video production at various workshops.
